The Right Time and The Wrong Time

One of the ‘joys’ of Saturday is the weekly shop at good old Tescos. Normally it’s quite busy but last Saturday it was just annoyingly full.

Not five metres into the store and I was accosted by someone trying to sell Tesco home phone to me which met with the usual reply of “Yes I do have a BT phone but it’s only used for the internet” which tends to confuse people and they leave me be. So off I went into the store where people have no common sense and have their trollies all over the place so you cannot get by and get on with your own shopping. Some people need lessons in shopping and thinking about other people.

After struggling through the mass of people every checkout had a queue, so picking the closest one was as good as any other… except it never is. The person in front of me was the slowest person ever at getting her items out of the trolley but that’s not a big deal; what was annoying was her spending forever rooting through her purse for every single coupon she could find ... and then proceeded to pay by credit card and being the slowest signer ever.

Saturday afternoon is simply the worst time to go shopping at the nearest Tescos but sometimes it’s avoidable.

Now a few days before this I’d gone shopping there at another time ... after 11pm and it was a totally different experience. The store has been open 24 hours for a year or two but unlike other stores, it seems the staff aren’t used to it yet. There were no other customers in there and a handful of staff stocking shelves, cleaning and various other little tasks. Every single one of them stared at me as if to say “how dare you come into our store?”.

It was a fantastic experience, easy parking, nobody else around, can do the shopping in minutes and get everything paid for and get out of there. My new target is to go there at some weird hour (11pm isn’t weird) like 3am in the morning and stroll aroundas though everything is normal.
