One of my (many) pet hates is people singing along to a song playing on a radio. They drown out the song that I may want to listen to in their wonderfully inept rendition and then forget the words halfway through until it returns to the chorus.

This blog isn’t about that but a couple of days ago at work we weren’t up to much and after a failed attempt to sing some song, the idea was for someone nominated to come up with a song we could all sing (it is very important to note that I wouldn’t have joined in… I did the Peter Kay Amarillo three in a row thing but singing was out, just as long as we understand that). The song chosen was a song from Joseph’s and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Needless to say nobody knew the song so it was a rather stupid song to pick. Well I say nobody knew it…

.. the fact is I did know it. When I was younger I spent a year or so experimenting and tried thespianism. I was twelve at the time and I managed to do a whole lotta crap that year. Reading something out in chruch (of all places) in front of the entire school, being class president (is that the word?), being a prefect and being a thespian.

One of the two plays I did that year was Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Despite being one of the leads in the other play (where I was ... erm a teddy bear which came to life and was evil), in this one I was Jacob - Joseph’s father. This was a great part because I had the first line in the play, got to call people asses (and in church too!), then buggered off for most of the play and came back for the last scene where I had the last line.

After one of the plays, one of the teachers said that a relative of hers likened me to Dustin Hoffman although the only role I thought of him at the time was where he dressed as a woman in Tootsie which may explain why the thespianism didn’t last very long.
